What thrills you ...

After interviewing Amy Ell, aerialist dancer, for an upcoming article on the psychology of risky arts (for a dance magazine), I discovered a bit of envy in myself. Alright I am down right jealous. What a thrill it is to do something a little different, off the earth? She was amazing to talk too. Talented, interested, smart. I learned that although we perceive trapeze artists, aerial dancers to be gutless when they are dropping through the air wrapped in fabric that there is science, lots of trai… Continue

Got Butterflies?

Most performers complain of butterflies, racing heart and nervous knees before a dancing, singing or presenting. It is normal! Dance Studio Magazine, November 2008, released, "Bring on the Butterflies," written by Nancy Wozney. I was interviewed along with Jon Eliot of Rice University on how experiencing Butterflies is good. It is a well written article that gives you a new perspective on why the body responds with symptoms of 'anxiety' and how to use that energy for a good performance. I am… Continue

Slowly, weird symptoms can creep into your life and because we are stressed, we might not recognize these symptoms as warning signs. Signs can be… Continue

A Day At the Hospital

I know what I have to do tomorrow, I have it written in my planner ... Very often enough we are reminded that life can shift, spin out of control or slap our arrogant faces. AND it happns without someone checking my calendar, ah-ha. This week my husband had to have immediate surgery. Today was his day. Our day. I love this man and yet have realized how easy it is to run past each other -- to check email, load the laundry, find maroon shoes or to rant with a friend. I looked around our… Continue
